Do You Know What a Park Model Is?

Is it a home or an RV? Are they really called “Tiny Homes”? Where can I put one of these? These are some of the many questions that those interested in a Park Model ask.

Park Model’s are classified as “RV’s” NOT HOMES. As such, they must comply with the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) standards. The RVIA is the national trade association representing recreation vehicle (RV) manufacturers

The RVIA defines a Park Model as – a trailer-type RV that is designed to provide temporary accommodation for recreation, camping or seasonal use. Park Model RVs are built on a single chassis, mounted on wheels and have a gross trailer area not exceeding 400 square feet in the set -up mode. They are certified by their manufacturers as complying with the ANSI A119.5 standard for recreational park trailers.

The average sales price for a Park Model according to the RVIA is $52,500…Scores less than the average condo or timeshare! Park Models have a variety of uses including hunting cabins, lakeside getaways, rental properties, and temporary guest houses.

No matter your desired use make sure your Park Model has a RVIA approval stamp. Many retailers will claim they sell Park Models, but have not been certified with the RVIA. Without this stamp it cannot be placed in an RV park, and in most states CANNOT LEGALLY be placed on private property. At Titan Park Model of Texas we ensure that ALL of our Park Models pass the rigorous certification process.
